Diaspora Support Network doesn’t just promise- we build progress. Through our first grassroots campaign, we achieved key milestones: providing 1:1 textbooks for most students and establishing the Simiw School Sick Bay. Both are in active use today, strengthening literacy and supporting healthier outcomes for the community.
What’s next? We’re building more than a structure — we’re building connection. We’ve broken ground on the Simiw Community School Multi-Purpose Building, a permanent two-story facility built to serve students and the broader community for generations to come. Inside, a dedicated tech lab will bring tablets and internet access to Simiw students, building the digital bridge for what’s next: a Global Pen Pal Program connecting Simiw students with their peers in the U.S.
The Journey That Started It All
Our journey began before Diaspora Support Network had a name.
We were diaspora travelers in Ghana who were welcomed into a naming ceremony with the Anona Ebusua Clan of Simiw—a moment of belonging that became a call to action.
Why Simiw?
Because we encountered a community rich in heart, resilience, and possibility. Students eager to learn. Local leaders ready to build. A village doing incredible work with limited resources. The need for educational materials, basic health supports, and stronger infrastructure made one thing clear- meaningful partnership here could be truly transformative.
Diaspora Support Network exists to honor that welcome by activating diaspora engagement and global collaboration in support of Simiw’s community-led priorities.

Community-Backed Progres
In direct partnership with Nana Kwamina Nguando IV, the newly enstooled Chief of Simiw, DSN has the full support of his administration for our modernization efforts. This collaboration extends to Simiw Village Elders, Paula Akwelet Ayitey – Headmistress of Simiw Basic, and a network of local contractors and community leaders, all committed to the multipurpose building project. Together, we’re creating educational programs to equip students with the STEM skills needed to develop, maintain, and sustain this transformative facility.
Caring for Every Child
For the past year and a half, DSN has supported Simiw Basic School with a dedicated school nurse providing essential health support and education. Stephen serves students from Kindergarten through 8th grade and supports school staff through first aid, wound care, health screenings, malaria testing and follow-up support, and health education that promotes healthy habits and disease prevention.
His presence helps identify health concerns early, supports timely access to care, and reduces barriers that can keep children out of the classroom. Through these efforts, students are better positioned to stay healthy, attend school consistently, and focus on learning.
